"The beautiful paradox in Xylaroo is that it's actually quite hard to pin them down."
A cursory listen to the debut long-player from sisters Holly and Coco Chant would unfairly pigeonhole them as nu-country, but a closer listen reveals an acetic cynicism worthy of Dolly Parton or Faron Young.
Evidence of that is Consume Me's open gambit, "Bring me wine...cannabis and coke all the time...the ocean of delight" — kinda confronting from an album that opens on classic tropes such as the metaphor of traintracks. Vocally curling around each other like felines in sinister synchronicity, the beautiful paradox in Xylaroo is that it's actually quite hard to pin them down. And that suits them just fine.
