"A perfectly performed and curated evening from a band with talent in abundance and feelings to share."
When the main act handpicks the supports, you know you are in for a complete night of quality music and that's exactly what we witnessed in the back room at Plan B Small Club on a chilly Friday night.
Georgia Mulligan has the sort of voice that breaks through your cold, hard exterior. It's subtle, beautiful and silky smooth with peaks of falsetto delicacy. Singing tracks from her soon to be launched EP, Our Blood To Part, Mulligan surprised the growing crowd with her delightful set, also joined by Ainsley Farrell and a perfectly precise backing band.
It's time to warm things up as local indie-rock troupe, Hot Spoke hit the stage. With an understated and Angel Olsen-esque voice, Vanessa Muir directs the band in a hazy, laidback set but with enough beat to get us moving our cold limbs. The atmosphere of the club is growing and this music is a suitable soundtrack. Cruisy, delightful band.
Why We Run haven't played a lot of gigs and with this, their Holograms album launch show, the crowd fill the small club in anticipation of a memorable performance. We weren't disappointed.

The lighting backdrop from Vivid exhibitor, Aly Indermuhle, provides a stunning visual to accompany the swirling, layered sound from the band. Frontman Nic Cogels declares, "We're playing the whole album tonight, just in a new order." And it's a fabulous album, enhanced by the live setting, the throbbing warm club and the obvious close connection between band and crowd.
The instruments rotate among the band, showing off their diversity, never detracting from the quality of the music. Highlighted by Rust, a yearning ghostly track, and Hallway, pulsing elegantly through the crowd, every track displays the sheer talent and creativity of the group. A perfectly performed and curated evening from a band with talent in abundance and feelings to share.
