Singer-songwriter Natalie Mering drops her fifth Weyes Blood album sounding as sweet and lovely as ever.

This feels like something of a breakout moment as experimental edges are softened and Mering's writing skills shine as she treats listeners to a collection of seriously eloquent songs. Dealing in soft, intimate, lovelorn folk, there is a '70s vibe about this album that suggests The Carpenters suffused with a darker Marissa Nadler-esque sadness. Comparisons aside, Mering's voice dominates tasteful arrangements that are subdued and restrained. This is a rare album of subtle beauty that at once is sobering but yet feels so good.
