Live Review: WATCH: TOKiMONSTA ‘Darkest (Dim)’

Ice-cool beats producer TOKiMONSTA has just put out a clip for her track ‘Darkest (Dim)’, a starry-eyed neo-soul jam. In the video, vocalist GAVIN TUREK dozes off into a dream world manipulated by TOKiMONSTA herself, who wanders around an extra-dimensional plane dressed as some kind of space rabbit.

TOKiMONSTA’s beats are pre-occupied with the deep sleep state and the video evokes that well. The story is told through close angles and shifting shades of light, leaving you intrigued but removed, like a half-remembered dream.

Even more impressive is the video’s $4,000 budget, sourced from donations through a Kickstarter campaign. It just proves you don’t have to sell your house to make something interesting. All you need is the time and effort, a few generous friends, and yes, a dream.
