At a time when every 16-year-old with a Macbook and the latest Skrillex offcuts can call himself a DJ, it’s sometimes hard to have much respect for the word. That’s when the newer, prettier term AVDJ comes in and saves the day (night).
Sure, the term is starting to be used almost as much – but when you’re simultaneously remixing music, memes and film clips with popular culture references – chances are you’re a bit better than the aforementioned 16-year-olds (though hey, some of them are alright too).
That’s where Melbourne lads NICE AND EGO come in. Beyond their somewhat tacky penchant for turning themselves into cartoons (everybody loves a good Gorillaz-style caricature of themselves, right?), these guys are actually pretty fucking good.
They’ve just uploaded a new clip called ‘The 3 Min Blast’, which has enough Pulp Fiction, Mario and Matrix references to satisfy even the pickiest of hipsters. Go ogle, it’s goodies.
