Live Review: Love Ssega's music video cuts shapes, in its own way

South London's LOVE SSEGA has uncovered a new approach to pop and rap. 'Out Here Looking' is the musician's latest release, and it bursts with passion and imagination. Taking the music to a whole other level, the music video has also just dropped.

Love Ssega's approach to pop music is extraordinarily refreshing. Where Rocky Horror meets 2000s-like tribal beats, Love Ssega stands at an intersect that you never knew you needed. 'Out Here Looking' is a well informed and eclectic piece of music. Spending his life prospecting through his father's collection of albums, the musician has obviously sought inspiration from anywhere and everywhere.

'Out Here Looking's music video not only stars the musician, but it was also his own creative project, through and through. Directed in conjunction with his art director, Kat Hassan, art and illustration sparked the inspiration behind the piece.

Literally cutting shapes, 'Out Here Looking' is a well-curated display of blank space and minimalism. The audacity with which Love Ssega performs is starkly contrasted with the monochromatic and muted colours of the clip. "Humans are good at sensing truth through expression," said the musician when speaking of the music video. And this mindset translates seamlessly into the clip's creative vision.

Cutting between Love Ssega's fragmented face and iconic images, the video for 'Out Here Looking' illuminates all that he has to say.
