Denver based newcomers LASCIVUS formed after meeting at a party, and finding themselves antisocially ignoring the rest of the world and discussing diva house and 90’s R&B. So combined electronic and disco punk music, to give birth to Lascivus. Purple Sneakers is premiering their new music video for the track ‘Forest’, demonstrating the evocative results of this combination.
Lascivus is electro-producer Usurper and punk rocker Kim Phat, both from Denver. ‘Forest’ was one of the first tracks they recorded together, leading them on a journey of seemingly perfect connection and harmony.
Denver is arguably one of the most scenic corners of America. The video for ‘Forest’ shows Lascivus’ native home from angles both usual, and unusual, before transitioning to some curious, sad, dreary facets of life.
Complementing the sound, described by the duo as ‘haunted synth-pop’ ,the vocals dig into you, reflecting on the lonely, often-dismal imagery of the video. Kim Phat provides the vocals, departing from her punk background, in ‘Forest’ she sings, “I want to see inside your soul”, drilling into your soul as you listen.
‘Forest’ is not a perky track by any means, but it certainly is beautiful. The synth sounds, are almost like someone is crying, and the percussion is soft. It transports you to the world of the video clip, of one where you feel lost in a forest, despite being surrounded by hustle and bustle of society.
Lascivus’ Self-Titled debut EP is out now. They are definitely an act to keep an eye on, with each track forcing you to take hold of your own feelings; you can’t be a passive listener to this music.
