Sounding like a combination of JAMIROQUAI and HOT CHIP all wrapped up in one big, techincoloured bow, Dutch duo KLYNE are an exciting discovery indeed. You may have heard their previous single, 'Paralyzed', which is currently sitting on a casual 470K plays on SoundCloud. If not, you could well have heard their latest release, 'Closer', which is sitting on 30.1K plays. If you're still left scratching your head, let us be the ones to change that with their latest film clip.
With dark brooding synths, mysterious basslines and seductive vocals, a clown dancing his way through the country side is not exactly the visuals I imagined when I first heard this song. However, perhaps it's this juxtaposition that makes the clip as great as it is.
The hypercoloured video follows our leading character as he recovers through the power of dance after losing some balloons. The dance moves he's capable of are nothing short of impressive, popping and locking his way along without sparing a second thought for the haters he meets along the way. It's a lot of fun and definitely brightens up the dark dance-pop track, giving it fresh new life by shining a different, more brightly coloured light on it.
'Closer' is one of those songs that makes you strut down the street without even realising it. It's an exciting move from the duo, and one that I hope leads to a lot more left-field dance pop.
With some incredibly solid stats behind them, it's really only a matter of time before Klyne need no introduction, and going from this I'd say that's not too far off.
