Live Review: Kita Alexander ‘My Own Way’ (Official Video)

KITA ALEXANDER is only 19, looks like a model, grew up surfing round Brisbane and has been playing guitar since she could walk. She’s our new girl crush.

Her new single ‘My Own Way’ has been racking up plays on FBi for its catchy heartfelt chorus that pines and tugs at the heartstrings. She’s questioning the supposed strengths of a relationship, but as the song progresses it seems that she’s signaling more towards its impending collapse – ‘would you let me go, go my own way if I’m too far away’ is not so much an issue of if things are on the rocks, but a matter of when the rocks will crumble.

It’s a very modest song with a simplistic repeated hook – Kita isn’t trying too hard, but then again you don’t really need to when you’re as cool as Haim filtered through Stevie Nicks. The new video contains grainy footage of Kita surfing, skating, jumping into waterholes and generally having a swell time with her good-looking pals.

Cool, catchy and calming, ‘My Own Way’ will sound especially great when played in your car cruising along the coastal cliff top roads.
