Having delighted ears with their release ‘Midnight Sun’ a few weeks ago, Sweden’s KATE BOY are now offering the full audio-visual experience, releasing an official video for the track.

Self directed by the band and filmed in singer Kate Akhurst’s apartment in Stockholm, the very same apartment the song was written and recorded in, the video for ‘Midnight Sun’ features Akhurst alone in two separate scenarios.

Proving her worth not just as a vocalist but also as a performer and passionate art maker, Akhurst belts out the vocals while filling the frame with interpretive dance (interpretive dance at its understated best, rather than animalistic and downright weird). Surrounded by a plain white backdrop and dressed in modest dark clothes; you get a sense of the world beyond the room as you can see out the windows, Everything is in shades of grey, rather than a strict black and white, giving further room to interpret multiple meanings of the lyrics.

As the song progresses into the chorus suddenly there is a flash of colour , mainly red, highlighting the idea of both a fiery sun and a fiery passion. Ackhurst is wearing a beautiful, billowing Japanese inspired kimono (designed by Swedish label By The No), which gently flows with every move of her body. The more angular jerking movements of the greys scenes are replaced with smooth flowing throws of the kimono. They are probably jerky underneath but the colourful mask is covering any spasmodic moves.

Kate Boy’s debut album One is due out in November and we are keen as mustard for this one. The band has a clear creative streak that goes beyond music and flows through them.
