Perth artist Jay Watson aka GUM has dropped another psychedelic look into his psyche with his clip for 'Deep Razz'. Well known for his eccentric input on the Australian music scene, Watson has been rapidly building his solo profile as Gum. Over the last few years he's played and toured as part of some of Australia's biggest bands TAME IMPALA and POND, who've all played an active role in reigniting Australia's love for psych rock. Since launching GUM, Watson has release two solo albums, and even toured with MAC DEMARCO.
The clip for Gum's latest single 'Deep Razz' is a real technicolour delight. The director takes audiences on a trip as the gum(by) central character falls face first into the unknown, and everything goes a bit upside down from there. "‘Deep Razz’ is about how confused we all are, simultaneously manic and blissed out. Permanently unsure whether we’re doing the right thing or not. Musically it reflects that, whizzing, fizzing and buzzing through vocoders, tape delays and busted synthesiser," Gum explained when asked about the central concept. Directed by SAM KRISTOFSKI, there's a real absurd Hunter S Thompson vibe about 'Deep Razz'.
A technicolour blur, Gum continues his mission to bring retro future to the masses with this enthralling video. Coming just in time for a national tour that includes a sold out show, and a few others on their way, it's exciting to see Gum really coming into his own. We can't wait for more.
