We've been big fans of Melbourne four piece CITY CALM DOWN for quite some time now. Known for finding the perfect balance between electronic and the more conventional instrument usage in their composition, their brand new track 'Pavement' is certainly no exception to this.
Making an impression on the highly utilised drum kit and jovial bass line sees 'Pavement' embellished with a glittery wall of synths and controllers. Developing this character however, was definitely not something the track was initially born into, as the first minute of the song is symbolic of a much thinner slab of concrete. Get past the acquaintance level though and you'll find yourself locking arms and walking down a mysterious pathway with the new tune, as its progression explores thicker textures and greater detail of new synth patterns, as well as the athletic vocal range of Jack Bourke's impressive delivery.
As these additional elements become more prevalent throughout the lifespan of 'Pavement', its accompanying film clip (directed by Melbourne buddy Reuben Schmidt) reacts with an experimental filter; disturbing movement with bright, visual glitches as the four members of City Calm Down perform in a small, dark room.
