"So vacuously pretty yet forgettable."
The soundtrack to the annual picnic event (coming to Sydney and Melbourne in January), this 29-song showcase of contemporary musique Française claims to represent the best of an exciting new movement.
Unfortunately, stereotypical expectations of stylish jazz-swing and Bontempi electronica fusions with cooing vocals are substantiated, unwittingly creating an experience akin to watching a French episode of Absolutely Fabulous without the laugh track. The likes of Robi or Emilie Simon may well be reciting a recipe for puppy soup in French for all we know, but it all sounds so vacuously pretty yet forgettable.
