Album Review: Thief - Closer (Deluxe)

"A no-nonsense, wormy electro-pop song, the track demonstrates the makings of a singalong classic, however its remixes are far too numerous."

This sleek deluxe EP is almost wholly dedicated to its bold opener/title track. A no-nonsense, wormy electro-pop song, the track demonstrates the makings of a singalong classic, however its remixes are far too numerous. The remixes range from sparkly and expressive (Weird Together) to shrill, glitchy and rhythmic (Akouo). The latter especially stands out given the samey, somewhat undiscerning nature of these inclusions. While the bright Broken Boy impresses with its watery synth tones, the swanky nu-funk of Cold is less interesting (favouring a '90s pop sound in the style Justin Timberlake, notably due to his R&B-style vocals).
