The Night CaféThe Night Café might not be a household name to many outside the UK, but the Liverpool quartet have been slowly carving a niche for themselves in the overpopulated British indie scene.
After releasing their first track back in 2015, the playful foursome have built a solid fan base over the years thanks to a host of well received singles, culminating in the band’s much anticipated full-length release 0151.
Chock-full of early '00s-influenced guitar gems, 0151 delivers punchy hooks and sweeping alternate melodies on an album that lives up to the hype. The tempestuous Felicity, the swirling pop-rock of Turn and latest single Finders Keepers are all noteworthy, but it’s the mid-album one-two burst of the foot-stomping Endless Lovers and melodic rocker Strange Clothes that hammer home The Night Café’s effortless charm.
The biggest criticism of the album is its length. With the majority of music listeners choosing singles over full albums, 18 tracks is just way too long. Filler such as 0151 Intro and Take Care Pt 1 could have easily have been cut to make for a more streamlined release.
That said, for a first effort, 0151 earmarks The Night Café as one the UK’s most exciting prospects.
