Album Review: The Internet - Ego Death

A timely revision of R&B that toys with expectation and convention but succeeds on its own terms, it’s unclear if The Internet has experienced Ego Death but it’s not an experience that comes with their third album, which kicks off with “Now she wanna fuck with me” (Get Away) and gives way to Syd tha Kyd’s lustful libidinous coo that bleakly hollows out as relationships go awry.

Matt Martians works Syd’s vocals into a mix of R&B that feels fuzzy as it brings together a dark, heavy funk and spaced-out soul. Janelle Monáe provides guest vocals on Gabby.
