"With a guaranteed different line-up every night, it’s well worth returning."
The idea behind The Comedy Confessional is to create an intimate space where a bill of comics can share a semi-secret story with a crowd, with the caveat, 'What happens at Tony Starr's stays at Tony Starr's.' In the small space, the comics' choice to put aside the mic made this feel all the more sacred. Marshalled to the stage by MC Alice Fraser, the line-up on the first night tended towards the sordid and the sexy, with yarns involving shagging on a bin in an alley, boiling a dildo and straight male experimentation with dick-sucking. Decorum and the code of The Comedy Confessional does not permit this writer to name names here, but suffice to say the comics, many of whom have solo shows in this very festival, put in a solid hour-and-some-change of captivating stories, and everyone got to go away feeling better about themselves – the comedians because they've got something off their chests, and the audience who are no doubt thinking, 'There, but for the grace of god, go I.' With a guaranteed different line-up every night, it's well worth returning.
