Album Review: The Baudelaires - Be A Baudelaire

11 August 2014 | 2:15 pm | Stephanie Tell

This EP isn’t cluttered instrumentally and doesn’t overdo the fuzz, which allows its easy melodies to wash over you

Showcasing another slice of top Melbourne psych-rock, these restrained compositions are dominated by a chilled, acoustic vibe. This EP isn’t cluttered instrumentally and doesn’t overdo the fuzz, which allows its easy melodies to wash over you – relaxed and unobtrusive. While elevating number Where You Go is a swaying, retro affair, marathon follow-up Heel-Waver adopts a rougher, blues approach, seen again in closer Broke Down Blues. But driven by Grischa Zahren’s echoing vocals, these hazy soundscapes still blend from one to the next, maintaining a nostalgic serenity throughout. They play Grace Darling Hotel on 12 Sep.
