Suitcases, Baggage & Other Synonyms

A good one for fans of musical theatre.

Five early twenty-somethings play versions of themselves on stage, almost all of them aspiring artists of one sort or another: Hannah a musical theatre actress, Sarah an oddball comedienne, Melissa a struggling actress, and Casey who complains about having a 'real job' in an office, and then there's Barnaby who sits to the side and plays piano at the behest of the girls. We are welcomed into the girl's apartment for a night as they they try to plan a holiday before Hannah jets off to Singapore to join a touring show. Mostly it's just the girls hanging out in their lounge room eating pizza and occasionally, breaking into songs about men, their hopes and dreams, and friendship. Barnaby sings a hilariously unrelated song about the struggles of finding love on Grindr. All the performances are charming and confident.

Suitcases, Baggage & Other Synonyms, devised by the group of graduates from various music and acting courses, is an enjoyable tongue in cheek reflection on being young and trying to make it in the world. It's like a less sophisticated episode of Girls set to music. A good one for fans of musical theatre.
