Live Review: Sticky Fingers, Bootleg Rascal, The Walking Who

Sticky Fingers are a band with a great show and a knack for writing very catchy tunes. If you do get a chance to see them, you’ll not only have a fun night, but one of their infectious riffs or melodies will bore its way into your head and stay there for a week or so.

More Sticky Fingers More Sticky Fingers

The Walking Who opened the night and played a very cool psychedelic brand of rock. Despite playing to a half-filled room, they were still exciting to watch. The aptly-named Bootleg Rascal came on next and filled the room with their own take on mellow reggae, which was slightly more pure than that of the headliners.

Ten-thirty eventually ticked around and Sticky Fingers came on stage, kicking off with Clouds And Cream to the delight of the crowd, and made their way through much of their first album. The crowd got even more excited when they launched into current triple j favourite, Gold Snafu, singing the infectious riff for the band. The set definitely had a lull in the middle, where the band played more songs than they probably should have off their new album. This is not to say the band performed poorly – their next single sounds incredible – more that there were too many unfamiliar songs, making dancing just a little awkward. This was quickly swept aside, however, when they launched back into Bootleg Rascal. The audience was certainly kicking by the time they played Caress Your Soul, which turned out to be a very dancey tune. Sticky Fingers then walked off for the obligatory early exit, and the inevitable encore, where they played the fantastic How To Fly, and eventually ended on a surprisingly rowdy version of Australia Street – complete with green and gold lighting.
