Album Review: Soviet X-Ray Record Club - Wake

StarStarStar

"Look at the time, is it 1985 again already?"

Look at the time, is it 1985 again already?

If you think that’s too harsh, listen to Society X-Ray Record Club’s Wake alongside something like The Sisters Of Mercy’s First And Last And Always, then get back to us. That might sound bitchy or snarky, but at worst, it’s a back-handed compliment. Sure, they wear their influences proudly on their sleeves, but also take the time to put a 2015 spin on them. Dark synths, brooding guitars, driving drums and dramatically sincere vocals… how much more black can Soviet X-Ray Record Club get? The answer? None.
