Album Review: Seratones - Get Gone

StarStarStarHalf Star

"For now, they seem content to let loose and rep the South in their own special way."

More Seratones Seratones Profile

Having scooped up three Grammy Awards this year, including Best Rock Song, it's safe to say Alabama Shakes are the band of the moment. Given their appearance, Louisiana four-piece Seratones invite comparisons to the Shakes, but that would only get you so far.

Singer AJ Haynes is as soulful as Gladys Knight and, yes, Brittany Howard, but also as playful and tongue-in-cheek as a St Vincent or a Jack White. The arrangements on these 11 short songs aren't quite as good as the singing and hooks, though that might come in time. For now, they seem content to let loose and rep the South in their own special way.
