Album Review: Scott Spark - Muscle Memory

2 June 2014 | 3:49 pm | Madeleine Laing

The stories are endlessly relatable and told with clarity and confidence in Spark’s sweet and likeable voice.

Muscle Memory is Sydney-via-Brisbane singer-songwriter Scott's Spark's second record, after 2010's Fail Like You Mean It, and it's familiar cleverly earnest piano-pop music. Recorded way back in 2012, it's obvious why it's been such a long time coming: the production is beautiful, the songwriting dense and the orchestration intricate and thoughtful. The stories are endlessly relatable and told with clarity and confidence in Spark's sweet and likeable voice. It's not the edgiest record in the world; you could probably happily give it to your mum for Christmas, but accessibility in pop music is never a bad thing.
