Sarah Kendall’s new show interrogates the shameful memories that haunt us.
Kendall grew up in Newcastle in the early ‘90s and she remembers George Peach, the friendless kid at school who was the butt of all the bullies’ jokes. Kendall was only just above Peach on the social ladder and she speaks of the childhood cowardice that is familiar to most, and her actions that ostracised Peach further, thus never allowing their potential friendship to blossom. Kendall is a gifted storyteller with an eye for suburban detail that makes her stories instantly relatable. The ending is heartbreaking but she manages to tell this sad story with humour and warmth.
