Perth producer John Dewhurst comes from the same crop of recent Australian electronic artists that saw Wave Racer, Cosmo's Midnight and Kilter rise to fame.
His latest release as Sable sees him draw influence from the pitched-up bubblegum sounds of the London-based PC Music label. One And Only features hyper-stylised vocals similar to those of Hannah Diamond or Hayden Dunham, while Hey U combines this fairy-floss pop sensibility with the bumping New Jersey club sound. The attempts at incorporating more songwriting are commendable, but Dewhurst has some way to go before his aesthetics match the songs well enough without seeming derivative.
