More familiar as part of Justin Vernon's Bon Iver entourage, Sean Carey should be breaking free of the bonds of the bearded one with the honeyed voice with his solo record (under the “guise”, S Carey), Range Of Light. Not that far removed from his supporting role, this album is filled with hushed revelations, epiphanies and wonders, an ebullient meditation on the virtuous nature of being. This isn't some New Age throwaway though – the plaintive plucking of acoustic guitars and soporific electronics combine with Carey's hypnotic vocals, creating a shimmering landscape of texture and, indeed, light.
