The transformation of Shake It Off to something like a Bruce Springsteen track through to Out Of The Woods verging on The Smiths, each track is twisted through a back road acoustic country style while keeping the heartbreak nature of the lyrics as the record's compass. By its own nature this album will clearly split a crowd in opinion; it's playful on genre, gender, and refuses to take itself seriously, but who can argue with the folk troubadour who is so clearly in his element here.
