There’s just too much reliance on the driving rock’n’roll.
British duo Royal Blood have made an impression with a few singles, including the massive Out Of The Black.
That impression being they’re big fans of Band Of Skulls and are quite content with playing predictable rock fare. While it has its punchy moments, Royal Blood inevitably falls flat. There’s just too much reliance on the driving rock’n’roll, without much thought to ingenuity.
You could add the caveat that Royal Blood, being a two-piece, are necessarily circumscribed, but there are plenty of duos – The White Stripes, Japandroids – that pull off two-man rock with much more panache.
