Album Review: Rita Satch - Rita Satch

26 June 2014 | 12:32 pm | Stephanie Tell

It fails to bring anything new to this well trodden genre

This sultry EP could pass for loungey wedding entertainment, but isn't a dynamic pop release. Satch's uninteresting melodies and hackneyed, R&B-style vocals inform a dated, crooning soul sound. Her taste for dramatic intrusions of strings certainly casts the mind back to Justin Timberlake's heyday. Garbed in a coquettish persona, she explores cardboard, lovesick situations with manufactured sass. Slow groove Love You Like I Do draws on an intimate, jazzy nostalgia. But like the rest of these tracks, it fails to bring anything new to this well trodden genre.
