Album Review: Ranger Spacey - Shake Well

"Keeping things bright, clean and melodic gives the songs a pop sheen."

Sydney quintet Ranger Spacey’s debut is an accomplished 40 minutes built on two of the foundation stones of modern music – folk and rock’n’roll.

Keeping things bright, clean and melodic gives the songs a pop sheen. At best there are shades of Dylan, Harry Nilsson and The Strokes with a freewheelin’ ‘70s feel; at its weakest moments things veers a little too close to earnest and beige indie-folk territory. A change in pace uncovers the slow to mid-paced gem Bones In The Lake, while ventures into country music are also rewarding on this enjoyable and varied album.
