Quantic's new long-player, Magnetico, is almost an overview of the various styles he has purveyed over five previous albums. And though his beloved Colombian Cumbia sound hangs heavy over the project, it's Magnetico's moments of fusion that represent its high points. Duvido meshes a rough synth bass line and Pongo Love's girly 'raps' with El Barrio sashays while Sol Clap and Caruru inject a reggae bounce. Demonstrating the breadth of sound, Spark It goes all-out reggae with the legendary Shinehead while at the other extreme a surprising Alice Russell gets all high country-folk on You Will Return.
