There's a large degree of aimlessness underpinning this delicately down-tempo release. A soulful electronic offering, its first few songs (Bruised, Terraces) are structurally disjointed and over-exhaust Shane Lock's muffled, unusual vocals. However over seven tracks, For The Ages proves a slow burn, taking time to reveal its best. Enhanced by subtle emotional touches in Coloured Heart, the wistful collection adopts a minimalist approach, letting the duo's soft, disco-infused beats take centre stage. Armed with a discreet dynamism, Self Rewards really showcases the merits of this method. They play Alia Art House on 31 May.
