"Carrying so much emotion and vulnerability within such a musically diverse tracklist, every song is instantly catchy."
Soaring melodies and emotive vocals flood Adelaide electro-pop act Pinkish Blu’s apostrophe-less debut EP Theres No Such Thing As Good People.
Tracks like Calm Down and Superstar feel as if Owl City joined an indie emo band, as the tired and aching tone of Brice Young’s vocals juxtaposed against sweet and light twinkling synths and danceable beats make it the perfect depiction of that happy/sad mentality.
Red Hot Moon smashes it out of the park with an explosive chorus that feels like it’s been ripped straight out of a '90s coming of age film, as two lovers drive off into the sunset toward the city.
Concluding with the haunting finale of Watermark, which reflects on heartbreak and the frustrations of watching a lost love move on - with lyrics such as “All your new friends don’t know you like I do/ But soon your new friends will know you better than I do” - the beat fades away into a swirling acoustic guitar that provides a final wash of calm.
Carrying so much emotion and vulnerability within such a musically diverse tracklist, every song is instantly catchy. It's an impressive debut.
