Album Review: Pikelet - Calluses

The live instrumentation entwined with the evocative synth lines and Morris’ bold vocals elevates Calluses to a glorious statement of intent.

Pikelet started out as a solo curio from Evelyn Morris, but on third LP Calluses the project expands to a four-piece, lending a darker, atmospheric heft to Morris' exploratory mores. From the lurking kosmiche of Pressure Cooker to the cosmic mystique of Forward Motion, the added percussive interplays accentuate the propensity to elongate, to find the ephemeral futurist slipstream, akin to many of the artists on LA label Not Not Fun. The live instrumentation entwined with the evocative synth lines and Morris' bold vocals elevates Calluses to a glorious statement of intent.
