Album Review: Paul Young - Good Thing

StarStarHalf Star

"Catering for his ageing fans this album deals mellow vibes in a blue-eyed soul kind of way."

Eighties pop star heartthrob Paul Young is on the comeback trail with new tunes produced by Arthur Baker.

Young's fascination for rootsy blues, soul and R&B persists. He's always survived on covers and this album reworking relatively obscure classics is no exception. As he moves from Al Green's L-O-V-E (Love) through to Lou Rawls' Your Good Thing (Is About To End), Young's vocals sound a little wizened, but this is compensated for by a pretty cracking band that deal vintage vibes. Catering for his ageing fans this album deals mellow vibes in a blue-eyed soul kind of way.
