Barely two years since Saturns Pattern gave Paul Weller some welcome sonic thrust, A Kind Revolution has him comfortably exploring the space his explorations have opened up.

Thus, one might argue collaborations with Boy George (on the Chicago house salted One Tear) or with friend Robert Wyatt (She Moves With The Fayre) are long overdue, but the timing and songs are just spot on. The white soul lollop of The Cranes Are Back and power-chorused Long Long Road all bring his 13th solo album (in merely 25 years) to a late career peak of grandeur that seems almost effortless.
