Album Review: Palehound - Dry Food

StarStarStarStar

"For a 21-year-old Ellen Kempner demonstrates skills beyond her years."

Dry Food is an explosion of musical genius; Ellen Kempner rocks the guitar with some killer vocals.

For a 21-year-old she demonstrates skills beyond her years, with melodies like Cinnamon that have funky indie beats, almost like a '70s tune with a dreamy hypnotic feel. Healthier Folk is more raw, with its confessions and slow tempo. This flows nicely on to Easy, a tune that gives off a moodier vibe. The album is sophisticated in the way it has been crafted, through the writing and a mix of soft and alto vocals. This laidback indie album should be accompanied by a few drinks and a chill session with mates.
