Album Review: Owls Of The Summer - ATLAS

12 May 2014 | 4:08 pm | Dylan Stewart

"a reflection of how deep the local talent pool is"

Owls Of The Swamp, or Pete Uhlenbruch to his mum, is another voice in the growing atmospheric sound wave creeping into a corner of the Australian folk scene. With artists like Dustin Tebbutt and Vancouver Sleep Clinic – and their Bon Iver-meets-any number of Icelandic musicmakers – already relatively well known on the local scene, ATLAS lands very much in the same genre. His third album, it was (unsurprisingly) mixed in Reykjavik, and is at its best where his vocals sit comfortably atop soft guitar melodies and light percussion, a reflection of how deep the local talent pool is.
