"Reining in the open-ended experimental edge he is known for to create satisfyingly concise cuts."

Roman Lips is a tight collection of fuzzed-out, bluesy psych-rock tunes.

It has Omar Rodriguez-Lopez writing at catchy commercial lengths in the vein of Jack White and The Flaming Lips, reining in the open-ended experimental edge he is known for to create satisfyingly concise cuts such as half-time groover Sequester Chagall. There's shoegaze vibes on Don't Fight Back as the album flows briskly through its varied 14 tracks. Progressive elements do shine through on tracks such as Upon Golden Ice, but for the most part it's all groovy rock'n'roll hooks as on the head-turning Deadlight.
