Album Review: Omar Rodriguez-Lopez - Aranas En La Sombra

StarStarStarStar

"Lopez continues to push hard on the boundaries of creativity."

Aranas En La Sombra solidifies Rodriguez-Lopez and drummer Deantoni Parks as a near telepathic match made in heaven.

It's full of electrifying energy and interesting, dignified playing, from the fast-paced and bass-driven lift off of Arcos Del Amor, to the ingenious hook on El Vacio. Lopez opts to sing primarily in Spanish on the record, adding to the intrigue. A stellar guitar solo highlights Metamorfosis and the epic sense of urgency on Primitivo Y Barbaro counters the skin prickling bridge on title track Arana En La Sombra. Rodriguez-Lopez continues to push hard on the boundaries of creativity.
