Twenty years since it changed a nation, Definitely Maybe is being remastered, with 44 songs across three discs giving us the polished-up classics, as well as live recordings, demos, rarities and more. It's pretty overwhelming on paper, especially considering there are plenty of double-, and even triple-ups on certain tracks, but once those first riffs of Rock 'N' Roll Star kick into life it's easy to dive back into these songs once again.
The third disc has the gold for hardcore fans, including a revealing version of Half The World Away recorded in a Tokyo hotel room, and the bare string track that gives Whatever its grand appeal. But what's better though is reacquainting oneself with oft-forgotten songs off Definitely Maybe such as Digsy's Dinner and Slide Away. Noel might be the songwriting genius here, but it's when Liam lets his vocal attitude off the chain that these songs really shine, and although the fistfights were a gas, you're reminded that things were far more entertaining when the pair were making great music.
The brothers Gallagher and the rest of those original Oasis geezers have plenty of reason to be cocky now, but in the early '90s they had no right to puff their chests out so far. This record made an entire generation of lads believe in rock music again; a few other people around the world took notice too. And little did we know, the best was still to come...
