Album Review: Nick Wales & Sarah Blasko - Emergence

StarStarStarHalf Star

"CODA’s Nick Wales and Sarah Blasko make something weird and ultimately uniquely special"

Experimental, performance art, minimalist, avant-garde – a lot of these words could be used to describe Emergence.

And while they could all be seen as warning signs, CODA’s Nick Wales and Sarah Blasko make something weird and ultimately uniquely special. The spooky drones, ominous drums and haunting backing vocals create a post-apocalyptic tone countered perfectly by Blasko’s voice, always finding room for something beautiful. While the specifics of the concept might not be clear, some variety is definitely there. No collection of random songs, this should be listened to as a whole.
