'It's All Faintly Ridiculous': Pond Wade Through Dissatisfaction For Hope On 'Terrestrials'

Live Review: LISTEN: New Build 'Finding Reasons'

Hot Chip's Al Doyle (guitar) and Felix Martin (drum programming) have formed their own side-project that they're calling New Build.

Joe Goddard isn't the only member of UK indie sweetheart act Hot Chip that's been busy lately with solo work. Al Doyle (guitar) and Felix Martin (drum programming) and Tom Hopkins, the engineer for their 4th studio album One Life Stand have formed their own project that they're calling NEW BUILD. It has the same quirky, British vibe to Goddard's 2 Bears without the cutesy lyrical humour.

The act's first teaser 'Finding Reasons' is sounding very adventurous and very 80s, reminiscent of a band like Human League with airy Pink Floyd-like vocals. It has the constitution of a killer pop song and delivers for the first 3 minutes before delving into a deliciously spazzed out guitar/feedback solo. Ending on a tropical note with some lonely steel drums. These guys are definitely worth keeping an eye on...
