Album Review: Neil Young - Storytone

More Neil Young Neil Young

Age shall not weary Neil Young, nor his power as a formidable storyteller. Storytone, his second album release for 2014, underlines Young’s heartfelt song writing with a 92-piece orchestra, big band and choir in tow. While some of the big band stompers (Say Hello To Chicago, Like You Used To Do) threaten to overwhelm the man’s journeyman vocal, the orchestral pieces simply shine. Plastic Flowers celebrates the fragility of Young’s vocals, and I’m Glad I Found You and When I Watch You Sleeping could be After The Gold Rush B-sides, only with moving and perfectly situated orchestral embellishments.
