Ne Obliviscaris ProfileMelbourne’s extreme progressive metallers have a genre heavyweight behind the desk for their second release and deservedly so as the six-piece continue their ascent with songwriting that rivals the old hands. Jen Bogren (Opeth, Devin Townsend) oversees an album that fleshes out the guys’ skilful bent for orchestral flourishes with a sensitive touch. As always with anything prog, embellishment is a given and things get a tad indulgent across the two concertos, Painters Of The Tempest and Devour Me, Colossus, but Tim Charles’ clear vocals and searing violin set up some moments of true melodic beauty.
