"Ruess’ first solo effort feels like a cavalcade of genres over the decades, reinvigorated by crisp production and a slew of orchestral instruments."
Launched in grandiose fashion with the Baroque choral-styled Grand Romantic (Intro), Ruess’ first solo effort feels like a cavalcade of genres over the decades, reinvigorated by crisp production and a slew of orchestral instruments.
It Only Gets Much Worse feels like a ‘60s rock opera, Take It Back could’ve graced a jukebox back in 1952, You Light My Fire could’ve been sung by Wham! and Brightside feels inspired by a Grace Kelly-led film’s soundtrack. An enjoyable listen for its modern take on classic periods, but ironically, itself unlikely to stand the test of time.
