From the moment The Gospel Queens open Sinner with the buzzing, tremulous gospel harmonies that prove a cornerstone of Shelton’s sound, their second release maintains a consistently classic vibe.

Daptone Records (who fans of Sharon Jones or The Budos Band will instantly recognise) have stayed true to their cause in endorsing Naomi Shelton & The Gospel Queens, and the magnificent gospel/soul amalgamation of the vocalists and their rhythm section, led by Brother Cliff Driver, is one formidable notch on the collective’s belt. Cold World will (funnily enough) make for a wonderful winter warmer.
