Album Review: Mr Oizo - The Church

StarStarStarHalf Star

"Hitting it from leftfield Oizo’s fifth deals plenty of Oizosomeness."

Oizo finds himself preaching in California on Flying Lotus’ forward-thinking imprint Brainfeeder after doing the French touch house and electro thing on Ed Bangers. In true Oizo style he delivers a hyperactive mix of quirky and cheeky electro which, although playful, sounds a touch more experimentally edgy. Surprisingly concise, this ten track album is over in just over 30 minutes. While tunes like Ham and Machyne are ready to smack down dance floors into whimpering submission, Oizo’s oddball humour shines on cuts like Mass Doom and Memorex. Hitting it from leftfield Oizo’s fifth deals plenty of Oizosomeness.
