"The 90-minute set boasted thick bass lines and the heftiest hooks you've ever heard."

More Motez More Motez

Off the back of his new EP The Vibe, Adelaide's very own Motez kicks off his national tour with a special hometown showcase. Adelaide's newest night for live music All You Can Eat, played host to the dance music legend at Fat Controller.

Now the Fat Man's basement has been scrutinised for its tinny-sounding acoustics during live bands but for gritty DJ sets, this venue didn't need to try very hard to be a prime location. There were strobe lights, a projector for visuals and LED lights.

Local DJ Dancespace was on hand to warm up the energetic crowd who had braved the line-up in the cold for the hot, sweaty basement. Spinning a plethora of contemporary remixes and old school tracks, Dancespace, real name, Jake Phillips, had everybody — including the bartenders — moving on their feet.

At 12.30am and not a minute later, Motez appeared out of nowhere in his 'Real Australians Say Welcome' T-shirt with a mic in his hand and greeted everyone with the cheeriest of club show introductions. Motez's set incorporated live elements with the producer hopping between the CDJs and his keyboards.

Motez went from strength to strength taking the audience through a powerful set of his original works. There were delicious cuts from from his recent Vancouver and The Vibe EPs and a momentous throwback to his early Food Music releases. The 90-minute set boasted thick bass lines and the heftiest hooks you've ever heard. The budding producer has recently gained mainstream attention, having worked his way up for several years now. A highlight was about halfway through the show when he dropped his track One 2 and Tkay Maidza collaboration Down Like This and had the whole room singing along. Of course, Motez made sure there were several remixes in this live show of his and played his popular remixes of Disclosure and Sage The Gemini much to the excitement of everyone who clapped along on the beat or let all loose at the drops.

He ended the night on a cheeky note, Motez asking everyone to "sing with me on the last song, yeah?". He pressed play on a-ha's Take On Me and threw an inflatable parrot into the audience before handing over the decks to Dancespace to kick on right through the morning.
