As the debut album from Moonboat gets underway you’re going to find yourself waiting for the moment the spacey ambience drops away and the breakdowns kick in.
It seems so obvious – get all of the arty, interesting crap out of the way before starting to slay. As the 11-song album progresses, however, it veers away from that obviousness. As Moonboat go about subverting expectations, the songs become more compelling because they’re not what you thought was coming. And it’s that anticipation that makes Spirit Panther such a gripping listen.
